This picture was taken from up in the air, looking down diagonally upon the Cathedral of Florence. The Cathedral has a huge dome on top of it created by a man named Brunelleschi. The Cathedral is a brown color, outlined with white panels. The sides of the cathedral are covered with beautiful and intricate designs. After the dome was designed and built, Brunelleschi was known by many more people as a great architect. Economically people were attracted from around the world wanting to see it, bringing in more and more money. Politically the dome represented some of the prettier sides of the catholic faith, which back then was very popular. Overall the dome affected the people in a positive way, and created a new sight for many to come and see.
This beautiful picture portrays the famous Statue of David, created by Michelangelo. This amazing piece of art was created in 1504, during the Renaissance. This was one of many famous pieces created during the Renaissance. It was made from what looks to be grey marble, with intricate lines showing every minuscule detail. David looks young, and has medium/short and wavy hair, he has his left arm holding a sling, that is flung down his back side. Since he is unclothed, this picture only shows his waist and up. Economically this piece of art was worth a lot back then, which would probably be sold to a patron. Also since the statue was so high quality, Michelangelo was known socially for his work always being sufficient.
This painting, the Mona Lisa, was a valuable piece of art created during the time of the Renaissance. It was painted by the famous artist Leonardo da Vinci. The Mona Lisa is a woman sitting down, showing only her waist and above. She has long dark brown hair, beautiful creamy skin, and a hint of a smile playing at her lips. Leonardo's intriguing use of light and shadows makes you want to take another look. Not only was it popular back then, but it is possibly the most world wide known painting in history. After he created this masterpiece he painted many more, which made his social status rise immensely. His works got people more interested in art, helping to support the Renaissance economically. Soon the arts were thriving, with Leonardo da Vinci leading the way.
This painting shows two men each dressed in long ankle length robes (one blue, one red). They are holding what looks to be a large golden cloth. Behind one man there is a grey horse, with its head down bent near the ground. In the background there are hills of grand trees, and beautiful white castles. The sky is a soft baby blue color that is soothing to the eye. This painting was created by Giotto, who also created The Gift of the Mantle. Paintings like these were most likely sold to patrons who help support the economy during the time of the Renaissance. By being a better painter and selling more, painters could improve their social status, and potentially move up in class. Not only could paintings show beautiful scenes of people and towns, but they could also show political views. For example if someone liked the ruler of that time, they might show it by painting or drawing a beautiful portrait of him/her.
